JEE or Joint Entrance Exam is a common entrance examination conducted at all India level for facilitating admissions into different engineering colleges in India. JEE preparation demands the in–depth knowledge of the concepts as it is globally recognized as one of the most challenging engineering entrance examinations at the undergraduate level. Every year around 1.5 million students appear for this exam. Therefore, JEE preparation requires a smart, systematic and concerted effort.

Overview

The IIT JEE Competitive Race will begin with its first phase i.e. Mains. The Mains Exam is conducted in two modes – Online and Offline.  Aspirants of JEE – Mains must apply online only. There are no printed application forms. Candidates can sit for three consecutive years for JEE Mains.

The JEE Mains exams is on the same lines of the CBSE Class 11 and 12 Physics, Chemistry and Math syllabi.

Mains Scores serve either as the eligibility to take admission in NITs⁄IIITs⁄GFTIs or an entry ticket to the next phase i.e. Advanced.

The JEE Mains is conducted in two papers, namely, Paper 1 and Paper 2. The Paper 1 is for those who want admission in Engineering courses [BE and B.Tech] courses. Paper 2 is for those who want admission in Architecture and Planning courses.
While Paper 1 is held via online and offline mode, Paper 2 is held only online. While applying for the JEE Mains exam, the candidates must specify if they want to appear for Paper 1 or Paper 2 or both.
JEE Main Exam Pattern – Paper 1

One correct answer will grant you 4 marks.
Negative marking:– 1⁄4th marks are deducted for every incorrect answer.
No marks will be deducted for unanswered questions.
The allotted time duration for this paper is 3 hours.
Each question will have only one correct answer.
Marking multiple answers will be considered as an incorrect answer and negative marking will be applicable.
JEE Main Exam Pattern – Paper 2

The JEE Main 2018 exam was held in pen and paper mode only.
The total time given to students to complete the exam is 3 hours.
Subjects: Candidates will be tested in Mathematics, General aptitude and drawing skills.
Total Number of questions: The total number of questions asked in the exam are 82 out of which Mathematics will have 30 questions, Aptitude will have 50 questions and drawing will have 2 questions
Type of Questions: While Mathematics and Aptitude will have objective type questions, drawing will have questions that will test the candidates in their drawing and sketching capabilities.
Marking Scheme: While the objective questions will be awarded 4 marks for a correct answer. A 1⁄4th of the total marks is deducted for every wrong answer. The drawing questions will be for a total of 70 marks but the marks for each question will be mentioned along with the question only.
Total Marks awarded: The question paper will be for 390 marks in total.
Language ⁄ Medium of question paper: Candidates will have the choice of writing the paper in English or Hindi.

Eligibility

  • The aspirant should get at least 75% in class 12th examination.
  • or
  • The applicant should be in the top 20 percentiles in their respective boards.(this criteria is not applicable for 2021-22)
  • Candidates should not carry any ball pens to the exam hall. They will be provided with the same by the invigilator.
  • Candidates who are attending Paper 2 must bring along their own geometry box set, pencils, erasers, colour pencils or crayons for Aptitude Test.
  • For filling the required particulars in the OMR sheet of the Test Booklet, the candidate must Ball Point Pen only. 
  • It is mandatory for candidates to take 5 subjects in 12th or qualifying exam.
  • The 5 subjects for B.Tech⁄ B.E. are:
  • 1–Language, 2–Physics, 3–Mathematics, 4–Any one of (Chemistry, Biology,    Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject), 5–Any other subject
  • The 5 subjects for B.Arch⁄ B.Planning are:
  • 1–Language, 2–Physics, 3–Mathematics (compulsory), 4–Any one of (Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology, Technical Vocational Subject), 5–Any other subject
  • A JEE Mains candidate can avail 3 attempts for the national level undergraduate engineering entrance exam.
